DTC B2206: VIN Code Mismatch: Diagnosis

Required Special Tools: 

  1. STEP 1. Check the VIN registered in the engine control module and the VIN of the vehicle. 

    Check if the VIN registered in the engine control module matches with the VIN of the vehicle.

    1. On the system selection screen of the scan tool, select "MFI/GDI/Diesel".
    2. Select "Coding."
    3. Select "VIN Information."
    4. Compare with the VIN of the vehicle.

    Q: Does the VIN of the engine control module match with the VIN of the vehicle? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2.
    2. NO:  Write the VIN to the engine control module. [Refer to HOW TO PERFORM VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) WRITING ]. Record VIN and go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. 

    Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM.

    CAUTION:

    To prevent damage to scan tool (MB991958), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (MB991958).

    1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
    3. Check if the DTC is set.

    Q: Is the DTC set? 

    1. YES:  Replace WCM and register the ID codes (Refer to ID CODES REGISTRATION JUDGMENT TABLE  ). After registering the ID codes, go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  The procedure is complete.

  3. STEP 3. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. 

    Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM.

    1. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
    2. Check if the DTC is set.

    Q: Is the DTC set? 

    1. YES:  Replace the engine control module and record the VIN (Refer to HOW TO PERFORM VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) WRITING ).
    2. NO:  The procedure is complete.
