Diagnostic Procedure

  1. STEP 1. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) CAN bus diagnostics 

    Use M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 3.
    2. NO:  Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to CAN BUS DIAGNOSTICS TABLE ). On completion, go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. DTC recheck after resetting CAN bus lines 
    1. Erase the DTC.
    2. Turn the ignition switch from the "LOCK" (OFF) position to the "ON" position.
    3. Check if the DTC is stored.

    Q: Is DTC U0100, U0114 or U0141 stored? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
  3. STEP 3. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) DTC 

    Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III) to check if the same DTC (time-out) is stored in the other ECU.

    Q: Is any DTC stored? 

    1. YES (Code No. U0100 stored):  Replace the ECM (Refer to ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) < 2.4 L Engine >, ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) < 3.0 L Engine >), and then go to Step 4.
    2. YES (Code No. U0114 stored):  Replace the AWD-ECU, and then go to Step 4.
    3. YES (Code No. U0141 stored):  Replace the ETACS-ECU (Refer to ETACS .), and then go to Step 4.
    4. NO (No DTC is stored.):  Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 
    1. Erase the DTC.
    2. Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK (OFF) position to the ON position.
    3. Check if the DTC is stored.

    Q: Is DTC U0100, U0114 or U0141 stored? 

    1. YES:  Replace the EPS-ECU (Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  ). Then go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
  5. STEP 5. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 
    1. Erase the DTC.
    2. Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK (OFF) position to the ON position.
    3. Check if the DTC is stored.

    Q: Is DTC U0100, U0114 or U0141 stored? 

    1. YES:  Return to  Step 1.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
