Module, Electronic Shift (ESM): Operation

The Electronic Shift Module (ESM):

Communicates with the Transmission Control Module (TCM) via a Controller Area Network-Chassis (CAN-C) data bus.
Incorporates an actuator that allows the knob to be locked for purposes of Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) function. The BTSI signal is received from the Radio Frequency Hub (RF-Hub) module.
Positions have a detent to keep the knob in the position it is placed in.
Is equipped with autostick functionality.
Locking is controlled by the TCM by means of a CAN-C message.
Is serviced as a component of the Shift Lever Assembly (SLA).
Additionally, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are available on some models. Refer to SWITCH, REMOTE RADIO, DESCRIPTION .
Can set Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) when a fault is detected.
