Module, Security Gateway (SGW): Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jeep Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Security Gateway (SGW), located on the Controller Area Network (CAN) architecture between the Data Link Connector (DLC), telematics module and the radio. Its purpose is to prevent threats to the CAN bus systems through the DLC and radio access points. A secure connection must be present to allow authentication between the SGW and the diagnostic scan tool. The SGW contains up to eight dual wire CAN bus channels that comply with the industry standard CAN-Flexible Data-rate (CAN-FD) bus architecture. The SGW does not support partial networking functionality. Since the SGW is a frame gateway, it also does not provide signal gateway functionality.

For diagnostics of the SGW. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .

For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) information. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
