DTC C1657 Implausible coding data: Diagnosis

1. STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), diagnose the CAN bus line. 

   Diagnose the CAN bus line.

   Q: Is the check result normal? 

   YES:  Go to Step  2.

   NO:  Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to DIAGNOSIS <CAN> ).

2. STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check the data list. 

   Check the following data list (Refer to DATA LIST REFERENCE TABLE  ).

   • Item No. 22: Steering wheel angle

   Q: Is the check result normal? 

   YES:  Go to Step  3.

   NO:  Replace the column switch assembly (integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to COLUMN SWITCH ).

3. STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-IIISE), check whether the DTC is set again. 

1. Erase the DTC code.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position (Engine running).

Q: Is the DTC set? 

YES:  Replace the EPS motor (EPS-ECU). (Refer to TIE ROD END BALL JOINT DUST COVER REPLACEMENT  ).

NO:  Intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS ).
