Air Injection Valve Control

  1. Disconnect cylinder head temperature sensor harness connector and connect a resistor (2500 ohm) between the terminals of cylinder head temperature sensor harness connector.
  2. Start engine and check whether the AIV valve operates by listening to the operating sound. If okay, test is complete. If not, disassemble AIV case and check AIV control valve and reed valves for binding or damage. Replace malfunctioning part.
  3. Check voltage between terminals 14, 28 and 36 of 16 and 20 pin connectors. Turn ignition on. If there is battery voltage, test is complete. If not, check harness for continuity and repair if necessary.
  4. If harness is okay, check EFI relay for continuity as listed in EFI relay table in this article. If no good, replace relay. If okay, check AIV solenoid control valve for continuity, resistance should be about 30 ohms.
