Closed Throttle Position Switch System Test (Quest)

  1. Start engine. Measure voltage between ECM terminal No. 33 (Brown/Yellow wire) and ground. Depress accelerator pedal. Voltage should be approximately zero volts. Release accelerator pedal. Voltage should be 8-10 volts. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If is as specified, system is functioning properly.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect and inspect closed throttle position switch harness connector for pushed-out, bent, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Brown/Yellow wire. Voltage should be 8-10 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check continuity between Red/Yellow wire and ground. Continuity should exist. If continuity does not exist, repair harness or connector as necessary. If continuity exists, check closed throttle position switch for proper installation. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS article. If switch is installed properly, test switch. See CLOSED THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH TEST under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES  . If switch is okay, inspect ECM harness connector for pushed-out, bent, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary.
