Radiator Cooling Fans: Notes

The ECM controls radiator cooling fan(s) based on vehicle speed, engine coolant temperature and A/C switch position. The following tables list correct cooling fan operation based on certain conditions. See appropriate A/C SWITCH ON or A/C SWITCH OFF table. If cooling fan does not operate as specified, see appropriate RADIATOR (COOLING) FAN CONTROL TEST.

A/C SWITCH ON (VE30DE ENGINE)

(1) Radiator cooling fans will operate at high speed if engine (coolant) temperature sensor is defective.
(2) The radiator cooling fan should be off when vehicle speed is greater than 50 MPH.
(3) The radiator cooling fan should be on low speed when vehicle speed is less than 12 MPH.
A/C SWITCH OFF (VG30E ENGINE)

(1) The radiator cooling fan should be off when vehicle speed is less than 12 MPH.
