DTC P0400 - EGR Function

  1. Check Vacuum Source To EGR Valve

Start engine and allow it to warm up. Set engine speed between 2000-4000 RPM. Disconnect vacuum hose to EGR valve. See Fig 1. Verify vacuum exists. If no vacuum exists, inspect vacuum hose for clogging, cracks or improper connection. If vacuum exists, go to next step.
  2. Check Component

Start engine and allow it to warm up. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait for at least 7 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check operating sound of solenoid valve while depressing and fully releasing accelerator pedal. If valve is not functioning properly, repair or replace valve as required. If valve is functioning properly, go to next step.
  3. Remove EGR valve & EVAP canister purge control solenoid valve. Using a hand vacuum pump, apply vacuum to EGR vacuum port. EGR valve spring should lift. If valve spring fails to lift, replace EGR valve. If EGR valve operates normally, go to next step.
  4. Check EVAP canister for leaks, by gently blowing air into point "A". If any leakage exists, replace EVAP canister. Check carbon canister for damage or clogging. Inspect EGR temperature sensor and EVAP canister purge control solenoid valve. See procedures in the SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article. Replace valve or sensor as required. Disconnect and reconnect harness connectors in circuit and perform FINAL CHECK .
