Key Switch Check

  1. Check Key Switch Input Signal

Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 32 (Blue/Red wire) at Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . DVOM should indicate battery voltage with key inserted in ignition switch, and zero volts with key removed. If voltage is as specified, key switch is okay. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Check Key Switch

Disconnect key switch harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between key switch terminals. DVOM should indicate continuity with key inserted in ignition switch, and no continuity with key removed. Replace key switch if continuity is not as specified. If continuity is as specified, check fuse No. 12 (10-amp), located in fuse block. Check for open or short in wiring harness between key switch and fuse, or between key switch and SECU. Repair as necessary.
