DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)

NOTE: Use the following test to check overall EGR function. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
  1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Disconnect EGRC solenoid valve harness connector, then check for EGR valve opening while quickly increasing engine speed to 2000-4000 RPM. EGR valve should open and close without sticking.
NOTE: Disconnecting EGRC solenoid valve will cause DTC P1400 to set. Disregard
  2. If operation is not as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If operation is as specified, go to next step.
  3. Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 63 (EGR temperature sensor signal) by backprobing at idle speed. See Figure . See Figure or Figure . Voltage should be less than 4.5 volts. If voltage is as specified, system is okay at this time. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. Check continuity of Black/White wire between EGR temperature sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 43. Continuity should exist. If problem is found, repair as necessary. If problem is not found, go to next step.
  5. Check EGR temperature sensor.
