Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. On scan tool observe FUEL LEVEL parameter. If parameter is 0-1 percent, go to step  4 . If parameter does not indicate 0-1 percent, go to next step.
  3. Test fuel gauge operation. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel level sensor harness connector. Fuel level sensor is located in fuel tank. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and fuel level sensor harness connector No. 4 (Orange/Green wire). If reading is less than .13 volt, go to next step. If reading is .13 volt or more, go to step  6 .
  5. Check for open in Orange/Green wire (fuel level sensor input) between PCM and fuel level sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If problem is found, go to step  7 . If no problem was found, go to next step.
  6. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and fuel level sensor terminal No. 1 (Blue/Yellow wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If reading is 2.9 volts or more, go to step  9 . If reading is 2.9 volts or less, go to step  10 .
  7. Repair open in Orange/Green wire (fuel level sensor input) between PCM and fuel level sensor. If problem is found, go to step  11 .
  8. Repair open in Blue/Yellow wire (fuel level sensor output) between PCM and fuel level sensor. After repair, go to step  11 .
  9. Repair short to voltage in Blue/Yellow wire (fuel level sensor output). After repair, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, go to next step.
  11. Using scan tool, select DTC and clear DTC information. Start engine and idle at normal operating temperature of 167-203°F (75-95°C). Select specified DTC INFO for DTC set. Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . If scan tool indicates DTC P0462 RAN AND PASSED, system is okay. If scan tool does not indicate system RAN AND PASSED, repeat test starting in step  2 .
