Inspection 16: Can Communication Lines, VDC/TCS/Abs Control Unit, And Steering Angle Sensor System

Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS (1) 

    Check the self-diagnostic results.

    Do self-diagnostic results indicate anything other than the above? 

    1. YES : Repair or replace the indicated item.
    2. NO : GO TO 2.

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR AND HARNESS BETWEEN VDC/TCS/ABS CONTROL UNIT AND STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 
    1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect battery negative terminal.
    2. Disconnect VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connector and steering angle sensor connector.
    3. Check for open circuit and short circuit in harness between VDC/TCS/ABS control unit harness connector E118 and steering angle sensor harness connector M22.
    4. Check all control unit and sensor connectors. (Check for missing, bent, or collapsed terminals in terminal housing.)

    OK or NG 

    1. OK : GO TO 3.
    2. NG : Harness connector malfunction. Repair or replace. GO TO 3.
  3. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS (2) 
    1. Connect connectors to all control units and sensors.
    2. Connect battery negative terminal. Turn ignition switch ON.
    3. Erase self-diagnostic results. Then start engine and perform self-diagnosis.

    Does only "STEERING ANGLE SENSOR COMMUNICATION SYSTEM" appear on self-diagnostic results display? 

    1. YES : Replace steering angle sensor and adjust steering angle sensor neutral position. Refer to ADJUSTMENT OF STEERING ANGLE SENSOR NEUTRAL POSITION  .)
    2. NO : GO TO 4.
  4. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connector and steering angle sensor connector. Check terminal for deformation, disconnection, looseness, and so on. If any malfunction is found, repair or replace terminal.
    2. Securely reconnect connectors and perform self-diagnosis.

    Is above displayed in the self-diagnosis item? 

    1. YES : Print out self-diagnostic results and go to CAN COMMUNICATION .
    2. NO : Connector terminal connection is loose, damaged, open or shorted.
