DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the following test to check overall function of fuel level sensor circuit. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
- To check overall function of fuel level sensor circuit, release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Remove fuel feed hose from fuel level sensor/pump unit located behind access cover, under rear seat.
- Connect a length of fuel hose to fuel feed port at fuel level sensor/pump unit. Place other end of hose into a suitable fuel container. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on.
- Using suitable equipment, drain 7.93 Gals. (30L) of fuel from tank. Refill tank with drained fuel. Fuel gauge reading should change during draining and refilling. If fuel gauge reading did not change, check fuel level sensor. For testing procedure, see INSPECTION/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR UNIT . If problem is found, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If fuel gauge reading changed, system is okay at this time.
CAUTION:
DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage.
