DTC Confirmation Test "B" (With CONSULT-II)

  1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Run engine at idle for at least 2 minutes.
  2. Check if EGR valve is open. If EGR valve is open, perform diagnosis for DTC P1402. See DTC P1402: EGR FUNCTION (2.4L)  . If EGR valve is not open, go to next step.
  3. Select DATA MONITOR mode with CONSULT-II. Read EGR TEMP SEN at about 1500 RPM while holding EGR valve is full open position by hand. Voltage should decrease to less than one volt. If voltage is not as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If voltage is as specified, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off and wait at least 5 seconds. Turn ignition on. Note THRTL POS SEN voltage at closed throttle.
  5. Maintain the following conditions for at least 5 consecutive seconds:
    • ENG SPEED: 2000-2800 RPM.
    • Vehicle speed: 6 MPH or more.
    • B/FUEL SCHDL: 7.0-10.5 msec.
    • THRTL POS SEN: (X + 0.23) - (X + 0.74) volts (X = voltage measured at step  4 ).
  6. If 1st trip DTC is detected, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If 1st trip DTC is not detected, system is okay at this time.
