Possible Causes

Malfunction is detected when:
- DTC P0405
An excessively low voltage from EGR temperature sensor is sent to ECM even when engine coolant temperature is low. - DTC P0406
An excessively high voltage from EGR temperature sensor is sent to ECM even when engine coolant temperature is high.
Possible causes are:
- EGR temperature sensor circuit open or shorted.
- Defective EGR temperature sensor.
- Malfunction of EGR function, EGRC-BPT valve or EGRC solenoid valve.
NOTE:
Perform the following DTC confirmation tests in order. If a DTC confirmation test has been previously performed, turn ignition off and wait at least 5 seconds before performing next DTC confirmation test.
