DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Xterra and 2002 Nissan Frontier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use the following test to check overall function of PNP switch circuit. During this test, DTC may not be confirmed.
CAUTION: DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage.
  1. To check overall function of PNP switch circuit, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between body ground and ECM terminal No. 22 (Blue/Black wire) by backprobing. See Figure or Figure . See Figure .
  2. When transmission is in Park or Neutral, voltage should be about zero volts. On A/T models, when transmission is not in Park or Neutral, battery voltage should exist. When transmission is not in Park or Neutral, voltage should be about 5 volts. On all models, if voltage is as specified, system is okay at this time. If voltage is not as specified, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE.
