Section 124 (Anti-Theft Systems): Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus ES 300 and 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
article in RESTRAINTS.
CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES
article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
To deter theft of the vehicle, this system is designed to give an alarm if any of the doors, trunk or hood is forcibly unlocked or the battery terminal is disconnected and then reconnected while the vehicle is locked.
The alarm blows the horn intermittently and flashes the headlights, tail lights and turn signal lights.
Furthermore when the interior light switch is in the DOOR position, the interior light turns on.
After the alarm is activated, when you unlock any door using an ignition key or wireless remote control, the tail lights turn on for about 2 seconds to inform you that the system was activated.
