Side AIR Bag Module

- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove appropriate side air bag module from vehicle and place it on a clean, dry, work bench with deployment side facing upward. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Firmly secure Air Bag Module Bracket (J41246) in a vise. Drill 2 holes, each 0.256" (6.5 mm) in diameter in air bag module bracket at position shown in illustration. See Fig 1 .
- Insert studs on side air bag module into 2 holes in air bag module bracket. Install two 6 mm nuts on studs. Metal portion of air bag module should face down.
- Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to air bag module using Deployment Tool Adapter (J44230). Position a fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 feet (4.9 m) from deployment area. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal.
- Ensure deployment tool power light glows Green. If deployment tool power light glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck light. Ensure no one is within 16 feet (4.9 m) of side air bag module. Press deployment tool button to deploy side air bag module.
