Learning Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2002 Nissan Xterra, 2002 Nissan Sentra, 2002 Nissan Quest, 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, and 2002 Nissan Maxima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch on. Wait at least one second. Turn ignition switch off. Wait at least ten seconds.
  2. Start engine. Warm up to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition switch off. Wait at least ten seconds.
  3. Start engine and let idle for at least thirty seconds.
  4. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor harness connector (Brown), then reconnect it within five seconds. Wait twenty seconds.
  5. Ensure idle speed is within specifications. See THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH, IGNITION TIMING & IDLE SPEED in ON VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. If idle is not as specified, result will be incomplete. See SYMPTOMS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  6. Rev engine two or three times. Ensure idle speed and ignition timing are within specification. See ON VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. If idle speed and timing are not as specified, see SYMPTOMS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
