Driver-side AIR Bag Module

- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Mount Air Bag Deployment Bracket (J41246A) securely in vise. Remove driver-side air bag module from vehicle. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE & SPIRAL CABLE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Using wire at least 0.04" (1 mm) in diameter, attach driver-side air bag to air bag deployment bracket. See Fig 1 . Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to air bag module connector, using Deployment Tool Adapter (J44230).
- Position fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 feet (5 m) from deployment area. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal. See Fig 2 .
- Ensure deployment tool power light glows Green. If deployment tool power light glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck lamp. Ensure no one is within 16 feet (5 m) of air bag module. Press deployment tool button to deploy air bag module. Allow air bag module to cool for 30 minutes before disposal. Put component in plastic bag, seal and dispose of it as you would any other part.
