Driver-side AIR Bag Module

  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove driver-side air bag module from vehicle and place it on a clean, dry, work bench with trim cover facing upward. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Using heavy gauge wire, secure driver-side air bag module to Air Bag Module Bracket (J41246). See Fig 1 . Firmly anchor air bag module bracket to a vise.
  3. Position fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 feet (5 m) from deployment area. Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to driver-side air bag module connector. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal.
  4. Ensure deployment tool power light glows Green. If deployment tool power light glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck light. Ensure no one is within 16 feet (5 m) of air bag module. Press deployment tool button to deploy air bag module.
