Diagnostic Procedure

  1. INSPECTION START 

    Do you have CONSULT-II?

    Yes or No 

    Yes: GO TO 2.

    No: GO TO  6.

  2. CHECK HEADLAMP CIRCUIT OVERALL FUNCTION-I 

    With CONSULT-II 

    1. Turn ignition switch ON.
    2. Check "LOAD SIGNAL" in "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT-II under the following conditions.
    LOAD SIGNAL CONDITION CHART

    Condition LOAD SIGNAL
    Lighting switch: ON at 1st or 2nd ON
    Lighting switch: OFF OFF

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO  4.

    NG: GO TO 3.

  3. CHECK HEADLAMP FUNCTION 
    1. Start engine.
    2. Check that headlamps are illuminated.

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO  10.

    NG: Refer to "HEADLAMP - DAYTIME LIGHT SYSTEM - ".

  4. CHECK HEADLAMP CIRCUIT OVERALL FUNCTION-II 

    With CONSULT-II 

    1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect DIODE E123 connector.
    3. Turn ignition switch ON.
    4. Turn lighting switch ON at 1st or 2nd.

    5. Check "LOAD SIGNAL" in "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT-II under the following conditions.
    LOAD SIGNAL CONDITION CHART

    Condition LOAD SIGNAL
    Fog lamp switch: ON ON
    Fog lamp switch: OFF OFF

    OK or NG 

    OK: INSPECTION END. 

    NG: GO TO 5.

  5. CHECK FRONT FOG LAMP FUNCTION 
    1. Turn lighting switch ON at 1st or 2nd.
    2. Turn fog lamp switch ON.
    3. Check that front fog lamps are illuminated.

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO  12.

    NG: Refer to "FRONT FOG LAMP ".

  6. CHECK HEADLAMP CIRCUIT OVERALL FUNCTION-I 

    Without CONSULT-II 

    1. Turn ignition switch ON.
    2. Check voltage between ECM terminal 84 and ground under the following conditions.
    VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

    Condition Voltage
    Lighting switch: ON at 1st or 2nd BATTERY VOLTAGE
    Lighting switch: OFF 0V

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO  8.

    NG: GO TO 7.

  7. CHECK HEADLAMP FUNCTION 
    1. Start engine.
    2. Check that headlamps are illuminated.

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO  10.

    NG: Refer to "HEADLAMP - DAYTIME LIGHT SYSTEM - ".

  8. CHECK HEADLAMP CIRCUIT OVERALL FUNCTION-II 

    Without CONSULT-II 

    1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect DIODE E123 connector
    3. Turn ignition switch ON
    4. Turn lighting switch ON at 1st or 2nd.

    5. Check voltage between ECM terminal 84 and ground under the following conditions.
    VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

    Condition Voltage
    Fog lamp switch: ON BATTERY VOLTAGE
    Fog lamp switch: OFF 0V

    OK or NG 

    OK: INSPECTION END. 

    NG: GO TO 9.

  9. CHECK FRONT FOG LAMP FUNCTION 
    1. Turn lighting switch ON at 1st or 2nd.
    2. Turn fog lamp switch ON.
    3. Check that front fog lamps are illuminated.

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO  12.

    NG: Refer to "FRONT FOG LAMP ".

  10. CHECK HEADLAMP INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT 
    1. Stop engine.
    2. Turn lighting switch OFF
    3. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    4. Disconnect ECM harness connector and lighting switch harness connector.
    5. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 84 and lighting switch terminal 12 under the following conditions.

      CONTINUITY CHART

      Condition Continuity
      1 Should exist
      2 Should not exist
    6. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO  14.

    NG: GO TO 11.

  11. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART 

    Check the following.

    • Harness connectors E106, M14
    • DIODE E123
    • Harness for open and short between ECM and lighting switch

      Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

  12. CHECK FOG LAMP INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT 
    1. Stop engine.
    2. Turn lighting switch OFF.
    3. Turn fog lamp switch OFF.
    4. Disconnect ECM harness connector and front fog lamp relay.
    5. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 84 and front fog lamp relay terminal 5 under the following conditions.

      CONTINUITY CHART

      Condition Continuity
      1 Should exist
      2 Should not exist
    6. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

      OK or NG 

      OK: GO TO  14.

      NG: GO TO 13.

  13. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART 

    Check the following.

    • Harness connectors E106, M14
    • DIODE E124
    • Harness for open and short between ECM and front fog lamp relay

      Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

  14. CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT 

    Perform "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT ".

    INSPECTION END 



  1. INSPECTION START 

    Do you have CONSULT-II?

    Yes or No 

    Yes: GO TO 2.

    No: GO TO  3.

  2. CHECK HEATER FAN CIRCUIT OVERALL FUNCTION 

    With CONSULT-II 

    1. Turn ignition switch ON.
    2. Check "LOAD SIGNAL" in "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT-II under the following conditions.
    LOAD SIGNAL CONDITION CHART

    Condition LOAD SIGNAL
    Heater fan switch: ON in any position ON
    Heater fan switch: OFF OFF

    OK or NG 

    OK: INSPECTION END. 

    NG: GO TO  4.

  3. CHECK HEATER FAN CIRCUIT OVERALL FUNCTION 

    Without CONSULT-II 

    1. Turn ignition switch ON.
    2. Check voltage between ECM terminal 96 and ground under the following conditions.
    VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

    Condition Voltage
    Heater fan switch: ON in any position Approximately 0V
    Heater fan switch: OFF BATTERY VOLTAGE (11 -14V)

    OK or NG 

    OK: INSPECTION END. 

    NG: GO TO 4.

  4. CHECK HEATER FAN SWITCH FUNCTION 
    1. Start engine.
    2. Turn heater fan switch ON in any position.
    3. Check that heater fan turns properly.

    OK or NG 

    OK: GO TO 5.

    NG: Refer to "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS " (with auto A/C models) or "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS " (with manual A/C models).

  5. CHECK HEATER FAN INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT 
    1. Stop engine.
    2. Turn heater fan switch OFF.
    3. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    4. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
    5. Disconnect A/C auto amp. harness connector or heater control panel harness connector.
    6. Check harness continuity between the following;

      ECM terminal 96 and A/C auto amp. terminal 19 (with auto A/C models),

      ECM terminal 96 and heater control panel terminal 8, 18 (with manual A/C models).

      Refer to WIRING DIAGRAM .

      Continuity should exist. 

    7. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

      OK or NG 

      OK: GO TO  7.

      NG: GO TO 6.

  6. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART 

    Check the following;

    • harness for open or short between ECM and A/C auto amp. (with auto A/C models).
    • harness for open or short between ECM and heater control panel (with manual A/C models).

      Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

  7. CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT 

    Perform "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT ".

    INSPECTION END
