Camshaft Position Sensor

Camshaft position sensor, used on 3.8L engine, utilizes a Hall Effect switch mounted behind water pump. The sensor monitors camshaft position and sends signals to PCM. These signals provide PCM with a TDC position reference for No. 1 piston. This allows PCM to compute camshaft position and RPM and fire fuel injectors sequentially. If camshaft position sensor signal is missing, PCM will sequentially-fire fuel injectors based on last pulsed signal. This allows for a limp-home mode. For additional information, see FUEL CONTROL under FUEL SYSTEM.
