System Check

  1. Drive vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Place cruise control main switch in ON position. Depress SET button once and release. Remove foot from accelerator pedal. Vehicle should maintain set speed. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Hold slider switch in R/A position until vehicle speed increases 4-5 MPH. Release slider switch. Vehicle should accelerate and maintain new set speed. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT RESUME, ACCELERATE, TAP-UP OR TAP-DOWN  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Depress and hold SET button until vehicle speed decreases 4-5 MPH. Release SET button. Vehicle should decelerate and maintain new set speed. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  4. Depress brake pedal slightly. Cruise control system should disengage. Memory should be unchanged. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. Momentarily hold slider switch in R/A position, and then release. Vehicle should accelerate, and then maintain previously set speed. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT RESUME, ACCELERATE, TAP-UP OR TAP-DOWN  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  6. Hold slider switch in R/A position, and then release within less than 3/4 of a second (tap-up). Vehicle speed should increase one MPH and maintain new set speed. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT RESUME, ACCELERATE, TAP-UP OR TAP-DOWN  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  7. Depress SET button once, and then release within less than 3/8 of a second (tap-down). Vehicle speed should decrease one MPH and maintain new set speed. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  8. Simultaneously depress SET button and actuate R/A switch. Cruise control system should disengage, but retain previously set speed in memory. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  9. Place main switch in OFF position. Cruise control system should disengage, and set speed should be erased from memory. If cruise control does not operate as specified, see CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  10. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Select PCM DTCS. If no PCM DTCs exist, test is complete. If any PCM DTCs exist, diagnose PCM self-diagnostic system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
