Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. With engine temperature above 120°F disconnect electrical connector and remove sensor.
3. Reverse procedure to install. Coat oxygen sensor threads with a suitable anti-seize compound and torque sensor to 30 ft. lbs. On 1984-87 models equipped with 4-121 overhead valve engine, remember to install shield when replacing oxygen sensor. If a new shield is not used, an air leak will occur, resulting in a false Code 44 or rich system operation.
