Steering System - Power: Description

The steering system consists of a belt-driven pump, rotary control valve pinion assembly, and a remote fluid reservoir. The control valve supplies fluid to the appropriate side of the rack piston when the steering wheel is turned. The pump mounts on the front of the engine.

The rack assembly is supported at both ends. The steering link bracket is attached to the center portion of the rack through a window that exposes the rack. See Fig 1 . Rubber boots protect exposed portions of the rack from contaminants. The rack assembly is not serviceable, and is serviced only as an assembly.
