Fuel Level Sensor: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Numbers in parenthesis correspond to numbered components in referenced illustrations.
  1. Fuel level sensor is located in fuel tank and is integral with fuel sender assembly. Remove the fuel sender assembly. See FUEL SENDER ASSEMBLY  under FUEL SYSTEMS.
  2. Remove the fuel pump and fuel level sensor harness retaining clip at the top of the fuel sender assembly.
  3. Disconnect the fuel pump and fuel level sensor harness connector.
  4. Depress the 3 tabs (1) securing upper fuel reservoir and slide upward until free of lower reservoir (2). See Fig 1 .
  5. Depress the tab on the fuel level sensor (1) while sliding up and out of the housing. See Fig 2 .
  6. Remove the retaining clip from the harness connector.
  7. Remove the fuel level sensor wires from the connector, taking care to note the location of the wires.
