Fuel Pressure Regulator: Installation

CAUTION: Do not use compressed air in order to test or clean a fuel pressure regulator as damage to the fuel pressure regulator may result. Clean the fuel pressure regulator filter screen with gasoline, if necessary. Do not immerse the fuel pressure regulator in a solvent bath in order to prevent damage to the fuel pressure regulator.
  1. Install NEW "O" rings on the fuel pressure regulator, if a new regulator is not being installed. Lubricate the "O" rings lightly with clean engine oil. Install the back-up ring. Install the upper "O" ring.
  2. Install the filter. Install the lower "O" ring. Install the fuel pressure regulator into the fuel rail. Install the fuel pressure regulator retainer clip. Connect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Install the rear seat cushion.
  3. Inspect for leaks by using the following procedure.
    • Turn ignition on for 2 seconds.
    • Turn ignition off for 10 seconds.
    • Turn ignition on.
    • Check for fuel leaks.
  4. Align and press the injector sight shield onto the mounting studs. See Figure . Install the mounting nuts onto the mounting studs and tighten nuts.
