Engine Dash Mat Replacement - Side

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and 2004 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The engine side dash mat is composed of a thermoplastic rubber. The material is flexible, so the most desirable way to service the dash mat or to make any repair behind it is locally pull away or remove the dash mat. In many cases, the dash mat can be pulled away in one area so that a repair can be made behind it. However, there may be an instance where it is necessary to cut the dash mat in order to make a repair.

Although it is not desirable to cut the dash mat, if it becomes necessary, the recommended procedure to repair the cut is as follows:

  1. Prepare the surface surrounding the cut by lightly sanding the area.
  2. Apply contact cement between the cut surface and the surrounding area.
  3. Allow the cement to cure before stressing the repaired area.
