Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement

Tools Required

J 36850 Transmission Assembly Lubricant


Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution .
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Vehicle Speed Sensor:

2. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
3. Remove the one retaining bolt (1) and the VSS (2) from the transaxle.
4. Inspect the VSS O-ring for cuts or damage. Replace as necessary.



Installation Procedure

1. Apply J 36850 to the VSS O-ring.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice .

2. Install the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) into the transaxle case. Secure the VSS (2) with the retaining bolt (1).

Tighten the VSS speed sensor (VSS) bolt to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

3. Connect the VSS electrical connector.
4. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
