Cold Start Valve

The cold start valve, Fig. 6, is located inside of the throttle housing and is supplied with full fuel pressure via a hollow bolt and a banjo fitting. The valve is solenoid operated, being controlled by a thermo time switch which senses engine temperature. The cold start valve operates when the starter is engaged or the fuel booster pressure switch is closed. At temperatures of -4°F (-20°C) or less, the valve injects fuel for period of time not to exceed 9.5 seconds. At higher engine temperatures the cold start valve injection time becomes progressively shorter and the valve does not operate at temperatures above 113°F (45°C).
