Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Testing and Inspection

Checking the Temperature Sensor

Tools:
- Multimeter
- Breakout box 86 11 006


The LH control module connector should be unplugged.





1 Connect the Breakout Box. Take temperature sensor readings by connecting the multimeter's test prods for:
LH 2.2
to control module connector pins 2 and 11
LH 2.4, 2.4.1 and 2.4.2
to control module connector pins 5 and 13

2 If the readings obtained are not OK, unplug the temperature sensor connector.

Take temperature sensor readings again. If the readings are still not OK, change the temperature sensor.

3 An ISAT scan tool can be used on M1991- cars equipped with LH 2.4 and LH 2.4.2. Select command code 250. The temperature will be shown on the ISAT scan tool display.
