Engine Mechanical Checks

Check for the following conditions. See appropriate article in ENGINES:

• Excessive oil in combustion chamber. Check for leaking valve seals.
• High cylinder compression. See COMPRESSION under MECHANICAL INSPECTION in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - 2.2L ION article.
• Combustion chambers for excessive carbon buildup. Clean the combustion chamber by using top engine cleaner. Follow manufacturer's instructions on the can.
• Incorrect valve timing.
• Check for incorrect basic engine parts. Check the camshaft, cylinder heads, pistons, etc.
