Shift Control Assembly: Installation

CAUTION: Use only the approved sealer for the transaxle case to shifter cover mating surface.
  1. Apply Sealer (Saturn P/N 12378516) to the transaxle case to shifter cover mating surface. See Fig 1 .
  2. Install the shifter. See Figure .
    NOTE: It will be necessary to move the shift lever when installing and tightening the bolts.
  3. Hand start all the shifter bolts.
  4. Tighten the shifter bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Verify that the transaxle is still in Neutral position.
    CAUTION: To avoid damage to the shifter guide bolt, hand start the bolt.
  6. Apply Pipe Sealant (Saturn P/N 21485278) to the shifter guide bolt and install the shifter guide bolt. Hand tighten only.
  7. Tighten the shifter guide bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  8. Connect the shift cables to the transaxle.
  9. Install the left front wheel.
