Diagnostic Procedure
- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L SATURN "L" SERIES article.
- Is DTC P0201, P0202, P0203, or P0204 set? If yes, diagnose affected DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L SATURN "L" SERIES article. If no, go to next step.
- Inspect the injector fuse. Is the injector fuse open? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 6
.
- Turn ignition off. Remove air cleaner outlet resonator. Disconnect fuel injector harness connectors. Probe the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit, fuse side, with a test light connected to battery voltage. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to step 8
. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine OFF. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to step 11
. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
.
- Turn ignition off. Remove air cleaner outlet resonator. Disconnect the harness connector of a fuel injector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine OFF. Probe the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit, fuse side, with a test light connected to a good ground. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 9
.
- Remove the injector fuse. Measure the resistance from the injector fuse to the ignition 1 voltage circuit terminal of a fuel injector using a DVOM. Is the resistance more than 5 ohms? If yes, go to step 10
. If no, go to INTERMITTENTS
in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 2.2L SATURN "L" SERIES article.
- Repair short to ground in fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to step 12
.
- Repair open in fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to step 12
.
- Repair high resistance in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to step 12
.
- Repair short to a PCM ground in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to next step.
- Operate the system to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If yes, system is okay at this time. If no, go to step 3
.
