Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Saturn Ion Red Line, 2005 Saturn Ion 3, 2005 Saturn Ion 2, and 2005 Saturn Ion 1. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the strut.

  5. Remove the strut to steering knuckle nuts.
  6. If applicable, reposition the wheel speed sensor harness and bracket.
  7. Remove the strut to steering knuckle bolts.

  9. Remove the upper strut cap to body nut.

    IMPORTANT: In order to prevent damage to the CV joint boot, place a shop towel over the CV joint.
  11. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  12. For strut replacement, refer to Strut, Strut Component and/or Spring Replacement .
