Circuit/System Testing
P0106
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the MAP sensor from the vacuum source, leave connected to engine harness.
- Connect a J 23738-A to the MAP sensor.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
- Observe the MAP sensor pressure with the scan tool.
- Apply vacuum with the J 23738-A
to the MAP sensor in 1 inch Hg increments until 15 inches Hg is reached. Each 1 inch Hg should decrease MAP sensor pressure by 3-4 kPa. Monitor the MAP sensor pressure to see if the decrease in pressure is consistent.
- If decrease in pressure is not consistent, then test for intermittent and poor connections at the MAP sensor. If connections test OK, replace the MAP sensor.
- Apply vacuum with the J 23738-A until 20 inches Hg is reached. Observe the MAP sensor pressure for less than 34 kPa.
- If more than 34 kPa, test for an intermittent and for a poor connection at the MAP sensor. If connections test OK, replace the MAP sensor.
P0107 or P0108
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the MAP sensor.
- Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 ohm of resistance between the low reference circuit terminal A and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the control module.
- Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal C and ground.
- If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the control module.
- If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the control module.
- Verify the scan tool MAP parameter is less than 12 kPa.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the control module.
- Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and the 5-volt reference circuit terminal C. Verify the scan tool MAP parameter is greater than 103 kPa.
- If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the control module.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the MAP sensor.
