Front axle transmission 4MATIC, general information

The front axle transmission is designed as a single-speed differential with smooth-running technology (fuel economy).

The housing of the front axle transmission is made of aluminum and it is bolted with a carrier (7) to the engine oil pan.

The drive pinion (2) is positioned at an 83° angle to the ring gear (3), to compensate for the angular course of the propeller shaft to the front axle transmission.

The ring gear (3) is mounted on the engine side, and bolted to the differential cage of the differential (4).

This location of the front axle transmission components means that the change in direction, caused by the single-speed lateral output in the transfer case, is inverted again.
