Location
The radio is located in the center console.
Tasks
The radio has the following tasks:
- Central operating unit for entertainment and communication systems integrated into vehicle
- Reading in of input signals as well as actuation of output media and system components
- Connection and control of a smartphone with the smart audio system via "smart cross connect" (vehicles with code C67 (Smartphone bracket))
Central operating unit for entertainment and communication systems integrated into vehicle
The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform user interface for the entertainment and communication systems in the vehicle:
- Radio tuner operation
- Tone settings
- External audio sources (via USB connector (A2x2) and AUX connection (A2x1))
- Audio streaming via Bluetooth connection
- Phone connectivity via Bluetooth connection
Reading in of input signals as well as actuation of output media and system components
The input factors are read in via the following connections:

- Telematics CAN (CAN A)
Direct line
The radio is equipped with the following direct connections:
- Circuit 30
- Circuit 15R
- Circuit 31
- Hands-free system microphone (B25/12)
- FM, AM and DAB antenna (A2/134)
- Audio output (speaker) (except CODE 810 (Sound system))
- Audio output (sound system amplifier control unit) (with code 810 (Sound system))
Telematics CAN
The radio is a telematics CAN subscriber. The radio reads in the signals for the following control units via telematics CAN:
- Audio gateway control unit (N93/1)
Connection and control of a smartphone with the smart audio system via "smart cross connect" (vehicles with code C67 (Smartphone bracket))
In combination with the smartphone bracket, which can be fixed centrally on the radio and adjusted with regard to size, a smartphone can be connected to the smart audio system and controlled via Bluetooth.
The following functions are also possible with the "smart cross connect app":
- Control of the main functions of the radio in the smart audio system
- Audio streaming
- Telephony
- Navigation
- Trip monitor; recording of the last trips
- Car Info: Display of important vehicle data

Structure
The following components are integrated in the radio:
- AUX connection on the user interface
- USB connector on the user interface
- Bluetooth® receiver
- Arithmetic unit
- Electrical fuse for radio in the combination connector at the rear panel
- Radio tuners for AM reception, FM phase diversity and digital radio with code 562 (Radio 62C - R0 with DAB and PREMIUM SOUND)
- Channel amplifier (except CODE 810 (Sound system))
Function
The status of the buttons is read in at the radio and made available to the central computer. Button actuations are further processed in the central computer and sent directly or as messages via the telematics CAN to the other system components.
If the "ON" button (1) on the radio is pressed, the radio switches on. The volume is regulated by turning the "ON" button (1).
