Idle Speed & Ignition Timing

Ensure idle speed and ignition timing are set to specification. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  and IGNITION TIMING (DEGREES BTDC @ IDLE)  tables.

IGNITION TIMING (DEGREES BTDC @ IDLE)

Application (1) Auto. Trans. (1) Man. Trans.
2.0L 12 @ 700 RPM 12 @ 750 RPM
2.5L 15 @ 700 RPM 10 @ 650 RPM
3.0L (2) 10 @ 600 RPM (3)
(1) To improve stability, timing is controlled while engine is idling. Timing range is plus or minus 8 degrees (3 degrees on 2.0L).
(2) Timing must be checked using a scan tool.
(3) Manual transmission is not available with 3.0L engine.
