Service Information
We have received calls on the Techline from Technicians having trouble getting to the bottom of stubborn electrical problems. One source of some of these varying concerns which can be easily overlooked is a pinched Compass Mirror wiring harness, as shown in the photo below. Not only does this harness carry power and ground to operate the mirror, it also has a signal wire to "tell" the mirror circuitry that the vehicle shifter is in reverse, which turns off the auto-darkening feature for safety reasons. Should the signal wire become shorted, we have seen it resulting in the A/T Temperature light coming on, reverse lights being inoperative and blown fuses. Be sure to inspect the harness on either side of the pictured connector for damage.
