Front Seat: Assembly

CAUTION:
  • Do not confuse the harness routing of the side airbag harness and the seat belt INN front harness, etc. Assembling with harnesses improperly routed may cause the harness to get caught and short out.
  • If the hook spring of the seat frame assembly backrest is deformed or comes off due to the deformation, replace the flat mat & hook spring assembly with a new part.

  • Before handling the airbag system components, refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" in "AIRBAG SYSTEM". Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>General Description>CAUTION .
  • Make sure that the side airbag module is installed as shown in the figure.

  • If the cover front seat backrest is not installed securely, the side airbag may not be activated properly, therefore keep strictly to the following procedures.
    • Do not reuse the mounting nuts of the airbag module.

      Always replace them with new nuts.

    • Be careful not to stain or damage the cover front seat backrest during assembly.
    • Do not reuse the hog ring and hang wire.
    • Secure the hog ring using hog ring pliers.
    • Install the hog rings to the specified points securely and make sure that there is no wrinkle or twisting on the cover front seat backrest.
    • Some seat surfaces use clip suspenders. If the clip suspender is damaged or its engaging force is not sufficient, always replace the clip suspender with a new part.
  • Do not reuse mounting nuts of the adjuster unit assembly.
  1. Check the clip suspender, and if it is damaged or its engaging force is not sufficient, perform the following procedure to replace the clip suspender with a new part.
    1. Mark the original position on which the clip suspender is installed before replacing it.

    2. Using a pair of nippers, break the clip suspender to remove.
    3. Install a new clip suspender on the marked position.
      CAUTION: If the clip suspender position is misaligned, seat surface wrinkle may occur.

  2. Install the seat position sensor and the harness assembly seat position sensor. (Passenger's side only)
    CAUTION: Make sure to install the clips after sensor installation. If the pins are not assembled correctly, they may come off from the bracket due to vibration while driving.
  3. Install a new control module occupant detection system. (Passenger's side only)
    CAUTION: If the control module occupant detection system is removed from the bracket, do not reuse it. Once removed from the bracket, the engaging force of the claw is reduced, and it may come off from the bracket due to vibration while driving.
  4. Make sure that there is no foreign matter on side airbag module.
  5. Assemble the seat cover.
    1. Adjust so that the left and right clearances between wire and seat pad become equal, and mark the seat pad.

    2. Mark the center of the wire on the pad side to which the hog ring is attached.

    3. Insert the wire into the seat cover, and align the wire with the position marked in step (1).

    4. Mark the wire on the seat cover side according to the markings on the seat pad.

    5. Perform steps (1) to (4) for all the information to which the hog rings are attached.
    6. Secure the hang wire in numerical order using new hog rings and clip suspenders.

    7. Make sure that all hog rings, clamps and clip suspenders are attached securely.

  6. Assemble remaining parts in the reverse order of disassemble.
    NOTE:
    • Check the shape and front/rear directions before assembling the headrest bushing.

    • When installing the seat belt INN front, follow the procedures described in the SEAT BELT information. Ref. to SEAT BELT SYSTEM>Front Seat Belt>INSTALLATION .
    • Install the backrest assembly and seat cushion assembly in the following procedure.
      1. Temporarily tighten the four reclining hinge bolts.
      2. Place the backrest in the most upright position.
      3. Tighten the reclining hinge bolts in order from (1) to (4) two or three times, until they reach the specified torque.

    Tightening torque: 

    Refer to "COMPONENT" of "General Description". Ref. to SEATS>General Description>COMPONENT>FRONT SEAT .

  7. If any wrinkles are found after the assembly of the seat cover, finish the seat cover with iron.
    1. Place the wet towel on wrinkles.

    2. Touch up with warm iron.
      CAUTION: Keep moving the iron, otherwise the seat cover surface can be damaged.
      NOTE: This method is available for genuine leather, synthetic leather, cloth, etc.

  8. Install connectors located under the front seat.

  9. Install the seat assembly, Ref. to SEATS>Front Seat>INSTALLATION .
    CAUTION: For the passenger's seat, be sure to perform [Rezeroing] for the occupant detection system after installing the seat assembly. Ref. to OCCUPANT DETECTIONS (DIAGNOSTICS)>REZERO .
