Torque Converter: Inspection
NOTE:
When checking the torque converter or replacing the ATF in the torque converter, clean the oil cooler pipeline. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>ATF COOLER (WITH WARMER FUNCTION)>INSPECTION .
- Replacement of ATF in the torque converterNOTE: Perform the following procedures if ATF has an unusual odor or is discolored.
- Agitate the ATF in the torque converter well.
- Drain the ATF while bringing the stator shaft fitting area upward.
- Check the following items and if any of the situations matches, replace the torque converter with a new part.
- Check if metallic sound is heard at the torque converter during stall test or in neutral.
- Check that there is no deformation, cracks or other damages.
- Check if the ATF contains fines in amounts greater than the limit sample.NOTE: For the limit sample, refer to "Notes" packaged with "rebuilt automatic transmission".
- Check of one-way clutch
- Insert ST1 into the engaging portion of stator shaft.
Preparation tool:
ST1: TOOL ONEWAY CLUTCH TEST (09351-32010)
- Insert ST2 and engage it to the stator thrust washer cutout.
Preparation tool:
ST2: STOPPER STATOR (09351-32020)
- Stand the torque converter upright and turn ST1.NOTE: If it turns freely when turned clockwise and is locked when turned counterclockwise, it is normal.
- Insert ST1 into the engaging portion of stator shaft.
- Check the end of the torque converter installation bolt and the bottom of the torque converter installation hole.CAUTION: The length of the installation bolts should be all the same.NOTE: If interference marks (a) are found, replace the bolts and the torque converter with new parts.
