EGR System - Diesel: Description
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is used to reduce the formation of NOx emissions by reducing combustion temperature. This is accomplished by recycling a metered amount of exhaust gas back into the intake system.
This system operates from an engine driven vacuum pump. The following components are used in the system: Bi-metallic vacuum switching valve (BVSV), exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR), high altitude compensation (HAC), thermostatic vacuum switching valves (TVSV), vacuum control valve (VCV), vacuum regulating valve (VRV) and vacuum transmitting valves (VTV).
