Operation Testing

  1. For Van, start engine and inspect actuator operation by connecting the positive lead from the battery to terminal 5 and the negative lead to body ground. On acceleration, there should be continuity between terminal 1 and battery positive and between terminal 6 and battery negative. Deceleration should produce opposite results. Motor should stop at the fully open and fully closed positions.
  2. For others, start engine and check that the actuator diaphragm makes a smooth reciprocating motion when vacuum is applied with terminals 2 and 3 having power and terminal 1 being grounded. When terminals 2 or 3 are disconnected, cable should return to original position.

  3. Confirm that the cable does not return easily when pulled with 4-7 lb. (2-3 kg) of force. Inspect control cable freeplay. It must be less than .039" (10 mm) for all except Van, which should be less than .08" (2 mm).
  4. Check that the vacuum hose is connected. If the operation is not as specified, replace the actuator.
