Assembly (Tercel)

  1. Coat all sliding surfaces with ATF. Position rear side plate onto shaft. Place rotor (with mark facing up) onto shaft. See Figure. Install snap ring.
  2. Install new "O" rings in rear side plate groove. Install new "O" rings in groove inside front housing. Apply multipurpose grease to oil seal. Install wave washer and long straight pin into front housing.
  3. Use a plastic hammer to tap rotor assembly into place. Install short pin into front housing. Install cam ring with the mark facing outward and large hole aligned with long pin.
  4. Install vane plates with round end facing outward. Install new "O" ring on rear side plate. Align side plate holes with pins and install. Line up reference marks on front and rear housings.
  5. Install 2 new "O" rings, then install rear housing Check to ensure rotor shaft operates smoothly. Install pulley nut and check rotating torque. Torque should be less than 2.4 INCH lbs. (2.7 N.m).
  6. Install flow control spring seat with new "O" ring. Install snap ring. Install flow control valve and spring. Install and tighten pressure port union. Install reservoir with new "O" ring.
