Throttle Position Sensor

Turn ignition off and disconnect electrical connector at Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Insert a thickness gauge between throttle stop screw and throttle lever. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance values. See Fig 1. If values are not as specified in table, adjust or replace TP sensor.

Throttle Clearance Terminals Ohmmeter Reading
0" (0 mm) (1) VTA - E2 200-800
.020" (.50 mm) (2) IDL - E2 0
.035" (.90 mm) (3) IDL - E2 Infinity
Fully Open VTA - E2 3300-10,000
Fully Open VTA - E2 (4) 3500-10,300
Fully Open Vc - E2 3000-7000
Fully Open Vc - E2 (4) 4250-8250
(1) Reading must be 300-6300 ohms for Supra.
(2) On Supra 7M-GE engine, use a feeler gauge thickness of .016" (.40 mm). Reading must be 2300 ohms or less for Supra.
(3) On Supra 7M-GE engine, use a feeler gauge thickness of .030" (.75 mm).
(4) Only applicable to Supra.
