Cold Enrichment Breaker System No. 2: Tercel

  1. Check Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV). Connect battery to VSV terminals as shown. See Fig 1. Blow air into nozzle. Check that VSV is open.
  2. Disconnect battery positive terminal. Blow air into nozzle. Check that VFV is closed. See Fig 2. If VSV does not function as described, replace valve.

  3. Check VSV for short. Using an ohmmeter, check that continuity does not exist between positive terminal and VSV body. See Fig 3. If continuity exists, replace VSV.
  4. Check VSV for open. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between VSV terminals. See Fig 4. Resistance should be 38-44 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not within specification, replace VSV.
