Primary Ignition Coil Resistance

  1. On Corolla and Tercel, remove distrbutor cap, rotor and dust cover. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between positive and negative terminals.
  2. On Pickup, measure resistance between positive (Brown wire) and negative (-) (Black wire) terminals.
  3. On all models, if primary resistance is not within specification, replace ignition coil. SEE IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. If resistance is within specification, proceed to SECONDARY COIL RESISTANCE.
